I’m always excited to start a new project. As a software developer, in particular one who has specialized in Web development for many years, this always provides an opportunity to incorporate new features and capabilities that I have learned about, or used on-the-job in other ways.
This site is dedicated to one of my passions: Woodworking. I’ve been hobby woodworking for over 30 years. In that time, I’ve taken on a wide variety of ambitious and interesting projects and developed a unique style of my own. I hope to showcase what I’ve made here, and make some pieces available for visitors who appreciate the care and attention to details that goes into making things this way.
My process involves drafting sketches, and finding the perfect pieces of wood to create passion for my work. Eventually resulting in something useful, durable, and beautiful. Much like the famous quote by Michelangelo, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”
Setting up a sustainable website these days involves one of two paths. For those who are daunted by the journey, you can buy a prepackaged solution, or for those who want more control of the details (yes, that’s me); you can build it yourself. This is the first website I’ve built with WordPress. I’m excited to learn how to use it and to do something practical with it.
As my personal hosting configuration has grown and morphed over the years, things often became more complicated. With this project, I wanted to include some features that I rarely would have used elsewhere, but which can save time and provide a better experience for my guests. For those of you who are technically inclined, I’ll consider making a future post that describes the architecture of my overall application constellation configuration in general terms, as well as the specifics for how some of the more interesting pieces are setup.
